Description
In a bright, wellness room at the Children's Cancer Center, young Perla sat by the window, her thin fingers clutching a paintbrush. Despite her battle with cancer, her spirit was unbroken, reflected in the vibrant colors she used to bring her drawings to life. Today, she was working on a special project—a painting of a turtle, her favorite animal.
Perla dipped her brush into the rich brown paint and carefully outlined the turtle's shell. With each stroke, she imagined the turtle swimming freely in the vast ocean, a symbol of resilience and endurance. However, it was hot outside. The sun was burning. She imagined herself in the ocean, swimming and cooling her skin, preventing it from melting.
The turtle was no longer just her favorite animal but she has become the one.
The shell was adorned with patterns of deep red and orange, reminiscent of the sunsets she loved to watch when she was in her hospital room. A shell as strong as her heart. She fought and is still fighting.
As she painted the turtle's flippers, she chose shades of green, mixing in flecks of yellow to represent hope and healing. She painted the background with various blues, creating a mosaic that mimicked the ocean waves. The turtle seemed to be gliding effortlessly through the water, each section of blue a testament to the tranquility Perla longed for.
Perla's mother watched from a distance, a smiled appeared on her face. This artwork was more than just a painting; it was a reflection of Perla’s journey, her strength, and her unyielding hope. Each brushstroke was a silent declaration of her dreams and her will to fight.
